A former leading fashion model who was 5'10'' tall, Carey was a favorite with the top American designers such as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father was a prominent geoscientist and was named Scientist from 1979 by Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey went to all over the world because of her father's work. After she graduated from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she started to do modeling as a side. It caught the attention of a Ford Model Agency New York. In 1980, she moved to France for a brief period of time, and lived in Paris and Bordeaux but returned to New York in order to pursue an acting career. She appeared on Vogue as well as Glamour covers. She attended full-time classes at New York University, obtaining her degree in literature while working on modeling assignments. Gradually she became interested in acting, and began studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. In 1986 she had her first performance as a small part in Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. When she is not working, she enjoys skiing or windsurfing. She also enjoys climbing mountains and whitewater river rafting.
